Some receiving this may recall me sharing this article about the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence awarding its Sam Adams Award to Aaron Bushnell this year. It must be noted that we did so to honor his self-immolation. Although that is how his opposition to Israeli genocide was manifested as the only means available to him, in his eyes, to provide a counter-narrative to the Israeli/US National Conservative (as represented by Trump/Vance in the election) fascist pro-genocide narrative. That, was illustrated so well at the joint Quincy Institute/The American Conservative magazine event back in May that I've shared links to in the past. Putting that sordid event aside, here is a description of what Aaron did, with a quote of Aaron's: https://consortiumnews.com/2024/09/19/us-soldier-who-burned-himself-to-death-over-gaza-wins-sam-adams-award/"As he was consumed by flames, SRA Bushnell’s last words were, “Free Palestine,” said repeatedly. "This was not an act of suicide, as some would have us believe, though SRA Bushnell acted out of despair of any other means of protest having an effect in stopping Israeli genocide and U.S. complicity in that. He obviously suffered the moral injury that so many U.S. service members suffer from when they come to realize their role in, as SRA Bushnell put it: “I have been complicit in the violent domination of the world and I will never get the blood off my hands.” The Citation itself can be seen at the bottom of this email, but this is the position we take in it, and why: "In an earlier on-line post, later identified as from SRA Bushnell, he’d written: “I have been complicit in the violent domination of the world and I will never get the blood off my hands.” "In advance of this act, Aaron Bushnell posted this message on his Facebook page: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So, here is the Invitation to the Sam Adams Award Ceremony on this Saturday, November 2, 2024, sponsored by the Eisenhower Media Network.
